Artist Bio

Chih-Lin Huang | Artist Bio

Chih-Lin Huang is a Taiwan-based artist who studied traditional Chinese landscape painting and blue-and-white porcelain painting under artist Cho Li-Chiu, gradually developing a foundation in brushwork, landscape composition, and painting on porcelain.

Inspired by the murals found in traditional Taiwanese temple architecture, Huang became increasingly interested in the relationship between imagery, symbolism, and narrative in traditional painting. This led her to consider a central question in her practice: Beyond depicting nature, can landscape become a visual language through which deeper human conditions and experiences are expressed?

Rooted in the tradition of landscape painting, her practice reconfigures mountains and rocks, clouds and water, flora, animals, and culturally symbolic imagery. Through juxtaposition, boundaries, passages, and recurring structures, she explores shifting states of human experience shaped by pursuit, desire, choice, achievement, and constraint.

In Huang’s work, landscape is not merely a representation of nature, but a metaphorical space that carries psychological states and the complexities of human experience. Working across ink painting, ink and colour, mineral-pigment painting, and blue-and-white porcelain painting, she continues to seek new connections between traditional pictorial language, cultural symbolism, and contemporary personal experience, exploring the evolving possibilities of East Asian landscape in a contemporary context.
